Firstly, let's start with an update on the email sending feature. While it technically works, we're experiencing some issues with bulk sending. As you might remember from the video last week, I tried sending 2 x 5,000 emails. Long story short – only 1,800 of them arrived.
This continued to be the case in our tests, and so far, we're still looking for the root issue. We're currently in contact with AWS support, which hosts the infrastructure we're using to send emails. Hopefully, we can solve this issue soon – it seems to be connected to the rate limit AWS is invoking on us, which is super annoying 🙄
In other news, I've been continuing to work hard on the onboarding flow and, excitingly, can now fully create a Magic Pages website from scratch, including domain names and all the other necessary stuff. However, I did notice while working on this that the planned flow might become problematic for users with multiple Magic Pages lifetime deals (which affects two of you). While no major changes are necessary, I will need to restructure the onboarding flow and customer portal slightly.
But on a brighter note, I have some huge updates to share with you in terms of infrastructure.
Over the Easter holidays, I stumbled upon a server provider here in Germany who offered a lifetime deal for some their servers. It might sound a bit insane, given that servers have some very real "running cost" involved (hi electricity 👋) but it makes perfect sense for them.
They have some servers that are 3-4 years old, which is ancient on the hardware market. They can't offer them in their regular product lineup anymore because technology evolves so fast and there have been tons of new developments lately.
Most server providers usually sell their 3-4 year old servers on the second-hand market or simply recycle them. This particular provider however decided to refurbish these older servers and offer them as lifetime one-time payment deals.
So guess what? I snatched one of these servers up for Magic Pages, and the hardware is still extremely powerful. So powerful that this one server could effectively host about 40-50 Magic Pages customers with ease.
This gives Magic Pages room to grow in the future and could potentially mean that I can offer more lifetime deals, something quite unique in the space Magic Pages is operating.
